Reviews
Had a very relaxing week at this hotel, pool was fabulous and loved the little beach. The animation staff were very good , and quite a few spoke good English Luisa was very good in the language. Downside away from everything shops bars etc, attempted to walk to nearest beach but turned back due to no pavements , so quite dangerous. Just a point for the hotel the balcony doors need stickers on as we walked into them twice thinking they were open . All in all we enjoyed the relaxing break, and the gala night was lovely .
We are guests from Canada staying at the Dolcestate hotel. The service is really exceptional. The chef prepared special dishes for us because of food allergies. There is also a shuttle from the hotel to Cefalù. Although, a little bit remote it is worth staying for the service.
Terrible hotel, I don't usually post reviews but this place deserves to be shamed
Not a 4 star, this is a 2 star hotel.
Staff in reception are ignorant and dismissive
Examples
Initially put in a standard room, this is a small room for 2 people, our 2 kids had to sleep on cotbeds designed for babies
We tried to move room and we're met with a 80euro a night bill for the upgrade to an apartment . The room we upgraded to had a broken bed which collapsed on us while in it, a broken fridge door that fell off and hit my wife on the leg.
All of this was reported to reception and was met with a "what do you want me to do about it" attitude. The older blonde receptionist who was the most rude spoke badly of us in Italian to her colleagues while we were at the desk not realizing that my wife understands italian.
We requested cutlery plates and glasses to be brought to our apartment which had a completly empty kitchen
The receptionist initially told us that everything would be sent.
Then she told us no as it was a hotel.
This caused an argument as I explained I needed at least have glasses to give my kids drinks, eventually after having a argument in reception and 2 days waiting. the cleaning staff arrived with a full set of everything you would expect to find in a kitchen. When I asked them if the other apartments were equipped with plates and cutlery, they told me yes that it was standard
The reception must of just wanted to be awkward because of the previous valid complaints made.
Breakfast was ok, staff in restaurant were very nice.
Pool bar served me a 200ml plastic glass of beer and charged me 5 euro so the place is about 3 times as expensive as the bar down the road and resteraunt in the next town over
The pool is nice but there is a lot of staff trying to get you to join in games even after saying no multiple times
The party team are OK but annoying
The party team took a picture of my 2 Children after they had told them that they did not want a picture, I had to ask for the pictures to be deleted and then listen to them trying to justify themselves telling me that they delete them anyway.
The lifeguard sends all the kids to the deep end of the pool in the middle of the day to allow the staff host stupid games that nobody really wants to join except for a couple of coerced guests.
Cleaners are very nice and friendly
Hotel is miles away from everything and I wouldnt recommend it to anybody
Cefalu is nice, rent a place to stay somewhere closer to it
Very disappointed with this hotel.
Rooms were fine.
It's OK if used just as a base for days out - you need a car though!
It's also OK if you're happy to spend days by the pool.
Location is awful - literally miles away from anywhere - No restaurants, bars, shops within walking distance.
It's described as having a beach - it hasn't. A small area covered in big pebbles behind warehouses and a shipping container yard!
Food was at best average.
Staff not particularly friendly but likely this is down to poor management / training.
Do your homework before booking here as you could be disappointed!
4 stars? Only if you look for those stars in the sky. Rooms are very old and not in standard of 4 stars. I had opportunity to work in this hotel and unfortunately miss Hanna lied to me. She promised different work conditions than were in reality. In contract I had 48 hours per week but I was working more than 60 hours a week. So many guests were asking me and my colleagues if we even have time for sleep. Sometimes we finish work after midnight and then you have to be back at work by 5am. I really don’t recommend this hotel.
Hotel is far away from city and you definitely need a car to go around. There is nothing close to the hotel.
Great płace for holiday, clean, rooms regularly cleaned, beautiful swimming pools, friendly staff, great animation team that make it a 5 star experience; most guests Italian and French, though communicating in English not an issue; only downside poor quality of coffee, we only had breakfasts served- quite repetitive though. 450 steps from the beach; a nice family owned cafe nearby for change of scenery and home made pasta; surrounded by hotels and villas with some industrial buildings near the beach, though views over the sea and mountains breathtaking. Beach mostly sandy with one or two meters small rocks, not an issue at all. No shops nearby- closest shop 6 km, it’s a pity as we had limited chance of getting some fruit and drinks - bar does not provide frui at all and beer prices come with quite a price tap. Overall, i strongly recommend the place both for families and couples!!
I didn't originally choose this hotel. We were moved here when our original hotel decided to close and we were notified a week in advance of our holiday. Dolcestate didn't have everything I wanted in a hotel but we made do. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The hotel is spotless, the room is lovely and cleaners never miss even coming back later if you want a lie on. The food is delicious but very traditional so a little tough on the fussy eaters. The location is in the middle of nowhere and a good hour from the airport so it costs a fortune to get anywhere. As its October the activities are almost nil so there isn't anything to do. The other guests are all mainly much older and generally French or German and not overly friendly so we definitely felt isolated. I'm guessing the older crowd are due to it being October. All in all its been okay. Its a beautiful place and a nice break. Renting a car is possible but the sicilians drive like maniacs so it's not something we felt confident doing. Also the shuttle that comes to the hotel isn't great. The driver is rude and leaves early on return which made us take over an hour to get back because he left without us. No bus travels directly to the hotel and taxis take a minimum of 30 mins to get to you if you're lucky. Cefalu is 20 mins from the hotel in a taxi, I'd recommend booking through the hotel and arranging return with the driver. The company they use are fab and extremely reliable. I also recommend booking your travel from airport to Hotel with the hotel directly as they use the same taxi company. The cost is 100 euro where getting a taxi from the airport to the hotel directly other guests have told me has cost from 220 to 300 so be warned. Flights can come in very late but you can book a late check-in out with the hotel for 50 euro up to 3pm and 10 euro for every hour after. Definitely needed seeing as there is nowhere to go. Overall it was a nice break we badly needed but definitely wanted more than what was available.
This is 3 stars!
Room temperature was always too high. I couldn't sleep properly during my nights stay there. Breakfast is very basic, cold and hard croissants. Coffee machine runs out of coffee sometimes. We went at 20pm and there were most food gone and not refilled and noone asked if we like something that was empty already.
No interests in guests what so ever. Very poor.
